Nasa gitna ngayon si Chief Justice Renato Corona ng pagsusuri sa buwis na ginagawa ng Bureau of Internal Revenue upang mabatid kung tama ang binayaran nitong halaga mula
Enero 1997 hanggang Disyembre 2010.
Iniimbestigahan din ang kabiyak ni Corona na si Cristina, anak na si Carla at manugang na si Constantino Castillo III, ayon kay Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares.
Binunyag ito ni Henares sa hukumang impeachment sa Senado habang inuusisa ng punong abogado ng depensa na si Serafin Cuevas.
“This investigation is being conducted notwithstanding the pendency of the impeachment trial? You did not find anything objectionable (with this effort) that smacks of persecution? You see nothing wrong with it,” tanong ni Cuevas.
“If the public expects us to do it. Under the rules of the National Internal Revenue Code…,” pasimula ng paliwanag ni Henares.
Ngunit pinutol ito ni Cuevas: “Who is the public?”
Mahinahong tugon ni Henares: “The public we serve as revenue collector of the Philippines, whoever that public may be.”
Tungkulin umano niyang suriin ang mga tax return na hinahain ng mga taxpayer.
