The assertion that this “all-original” movie-musical celebrates two treasures that Filipinos are seen to have given the world: Overseas workers and our gift of song. Rolando Atienza, Film Development Council of the Philippines chair, says: “Let us be proud of these contributions to the world.” Nes Jardin of the CCP dubs it a “dream project.”

Using their individual skills, Iraq war veterans must elude the law and clear their names at the same time. Cinemablend.com gives this remake of a 1980s TV show a “5” rating, the highest in the Excite-o-Meter. Screencrave.com points out: It’s full of “crazy stunts, creepy laughs.” Insidemovies.moviefone.com relates that it’s “as action-packed as the TV show.” Opens Thursday.

Kid (Smith) moves to China and befriends a master (Chan) who teaches him kung fu. Variety’s Justin Chang notes: It “manages to be absorbing … despite its nearly 2 1/2-hour-running time.” Cinemablend.com’s Katey Rich considers it “a hit for both the people who loved the original and their children.” The Hollywood Reporter’s Frank Scheck differs: It’s “longer and bigger-budgeted that the original while having lesser impact.” Opens Friday.
