Repentant father (Gabby) and head-strong daughter (KC) reunite after years of estrangement and attempt to sort out issues in the province. Star Cinema’s Father’s Day offering is “about second chances,” says director De los Reyes. “Working with this father-and-daughter team is tedious and fun,” he notes. “You have to be careful because the scenes shift between fact and fiction. But I’ve known Gabby since the 1980s and KC is free-spirited.”

Letters to Juliet

While on vacation in Italy, a girl (Seyfried) gets entranced with the unanswered love letters left for William Shakespeare’s Juliet in Verona. New York Times’ AO Scott thinks it’s “nearly perfect without being especially good.” MTV’s Kurt Loder remarks: “Who can resist such ravishing travel porn.” Los Angeles Times’ Betsy Sharkey calls it “a sugary paean to quixotic clichés … destined to be a guilty pleasure.”

Toy Story 3

Directed by Lee Unkrich; with the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Bonnie Hunt, Whoopi Goldberg

Chatty toys help out in a daycare center, but they soon band together to plot their escape. Variety’s Peter Debruge thinks it’s a “welcome yet nonessential fun.” Screen International’s Brent Simon describes it as “a winsome blend of peppy ensemble adventure and nostalgic reflection.” The Hollywood Reporter’s Michael Rechtshaffen hails it as a “thoroughly engaging and emotionally satisfying return.”
